Under every family’s Christmas tree sits a range of presents that come in all shapes and sizes. But all of these gifts have one thing in common – they are coated in colourful and festive wrapping paper. But where does wrapping paper come from, and how is it made? The process begins with wood fibre, which consists primarily of cellulose, which is then reduced chemically or mechanically to pulp—a soft, wet, shapeless mass of material. This is then bleached and milled to make paper. When it comes to the designs on the paper, special inks are used and printed on the surface.

Happy wrapping!
