Eggnog, the unusual and divisive beverage only makes an appearance at Christmas time, is described (by some) as a thick, sweet and creamy festive treat. As the name suggests, raw eggs are the key ingredient. It is made by combining the egg yolks with sugar, cream, booze and a little spice like nutmeg or vanilla before readying the whipped egg whites for that extra foamy texture. Some recipes, including one rumoured to be written by President George Washington, recommend ageing the eggnog for at least several days in order to coax out a more mellow and complex flavour.
